2011-2012. Statistical Modelling II (M3S2/M4S2/M5S2).

In this course, we look at a selection of techniques for the collection and creation of official statistics. The course will contain mostly mathematics, as well as some discussion of the key issues surrounding official statistics. The course is in four parts:
  • Part A: Survey sampling.
  • Part B: Price indices and index numbers.
  • Part C: Demographic statistics.
  • Part D: National Accounts.
  • The R statistical package will be used for illustration purposes. Students will be expected to understand how to use specific R packages. Coding skills are not of interest in themselves, but practical familiarity with relevant software will be assessed via the coursework.
